Corruption, drug distribution, money laundering, crimes against justice. Police officers from the Petrich district administration are being investigated for all this, and their chief, Borislav Getsev, was taken away in handcuffs during an unprecedented operation in the border town.

The operation is led by the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office. The case began after an investigation by “Internal Security” in the Ministry of the Interior. The men in uniform are being investigated in Petrich for crimes committed as an organized crime group from April to the day of the arrests.

Just in April, Borislav Getsev was appointed head of Petrich regional administration, an investigation by “24 Chasa” showed. Its subdivisions work on the land of two borders, and the area has been known for years for marijuana fields, which are grown due to the favorable climatic conditions.

Before becoming the head of the district, Getsev was the head of the Criminal Police for 6 years.

He was appointed police chief in Petrich by the leader of the ODMVR in Blagoevgrad, Daniel Dimitrov, at the beginning of the caretaker government. He was also present when his subordinates were arrested in Petrich.

Early Monday, the perimeter around the district administration building was suspended and nearby streets were closed to traffic.

All employees were taken out of their offices and the investigation began. Later it became clear that, in addition to the district commander, five of his subordinates were arrested. These are three detectives from the Criminal Police, an investigative policeman and a traffic police officer.

Homeland Security has been investigating them for several months. Their homes were searched, searched and seized.

Unofficially, several versions appeared in Petrich about connections with the criminal group, an umbrella over drug dealers and cannabis producers, illegal weapons and car registration.

Maybe the police had a relationship with people from Sofia and crimes were committed there, that is why the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office took over the pre-trial proceedings.

At the same time, there was also action against drug dealers in Sandanski, and national police officers joined the administration of the area. There was also information about the arrest of the leader, Vasil Trendafilov, but it was not confirmed.

He went on leave during the election campaign. This was announced by agents in the current vote buying scandals. According to them, he had to resign temporarily until the vote was over.
