Police chief concerned about the use of consultants in the police

– The competence should be built up internally in the police, says general manager Sigve Bolstad to Aftenposten.

He believes the police obviously need to build more IT expertise internally, even though IT solutions can not replace patrolling police.

– It is through being physically present in the local communities that you can prevent and detect crime, and that is what provides security and preparedness, he emphasizes.

Jenny Klinge, justice policy spokesperson in the Storting for the Center Party, fears that the use of hiring could lead to the police developing in the wrong direction.

– What we always work for is for the police to provide better services to the inhabitants. That more people should get help. I experience that we do not spend the money purposefully enough for this today, because too much money is spent on something else, she tells the newspaper.

She also points out that around 700 more police bureaucrats have been employed under the Solberg government. That means more money that does not go to the police’s core tasks, she points out.
