It got out of hand on Tuesday night in the entertainment district in Knokke-Heist: hundreds of young people, especially Dutch people, did not want to go home after the closing hours of the cafes. To get the situation under control, the police asked for help in surrounding areas. In the short term, Mayor Lippens mainly hints at additional agents in the entertainment district, although he did not say that in so many words. “Maybe our intervention will be visible in the street scene, we’ll see. But it is always the same with the Dutch. Everyone here more or less correctly adheres to the rules in the entertainment district, but the Dutch do not. It has always been like this. ”
If the nuisance continues, the municipality is thinking of temporarily limiting nightlife. “In the worst case, night affairs can be closed,” said chief of police Steve Desmet.
The police were already on the scene on Wednesday evening. And it was also striking that the police mainly restrained Dutch youth. They are searched and then allowed to continue.
