Police, who have investigated allegations of “Seongnam FC sponsorship” involving Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, said Lee Jae-myung’s criminal responsibility is recognized.
CEO Lee is said to have granted preferential treatment in exchange for receiving Seongnam FC donations from Doosan during his days as Mayor of Seongnam.

The police, who investigated the allegations of sponsorship of “Seongnam FC”, notified the prosecution of the results of the investigation that the accusation of Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has been admitted.
The ‘crime of bribery of third parties’ is said to be instituted, in which a public official receives an illicit solicitation and bribes a third party.
This is a different conclusion than it was a year ago.
At the time, police dismissed the case saying there was no charge against Lee, but earlier this year the investigation was resumed at the prosecution’s request for an additional investigation.
This case is suspected in 2015 that Seongnam City changed the land of the Doosan-owned hospital for commercial use and tripled the area ratio in exchange for a donation of 5.5 billion won from Doosan to “Seongnam FC”.
Doosan built the “Bundang Doosan Tower” on site and property values are estimated to have risen dramatically.
In particular, it was reported that Seongnam City asked Doosan to donate 15% of the site in exchange for the increase in floor area, but eventually accepted the “10% donation”.
Police said Seongnam City was deemed to have given Doosan such preferential treatment and received Seongnam FC sponsorship in return.
However, it was not confirmed that the donation money provided by Doosan went to CEO Lee, and the bribery charge was not enforced.
Police explained the reason for the change in the conclusion, saying, “We have secured meaningful statements from the people involved in the case.”
CEO Lee objected to the new investigation, saying it was a normal advertising and support attraction for businesses.
