Ambulance and armed police moved out to Nav in the center at 1050 on Thursday.
It was employees who contacted the police when a Nav client was perceived as threatening.
– He shouted and gestured. Then the employees felt threatened, says police task leader Frank Listøl.
Undramatic arrest
The employees at the Nav office wanted the man out of there immediately.
– We were here early, and the arrest was undramatic, says Listøl.
The man has been transported to the police station.
– Now we are questioning witnesses and employees, he says.
No weapons or dangerous objects were found. The threat message was something the police took very seriously.
– The police armed themselves due to the content of the emergency report. We feared that we could face a dangerous situation, says Listøl.
The arrested man is in his 20s.
– We do not know anything about the reason for the incident, says operations manager in the western police district, Stein Rune Halleraker, to BA.
Gathers the employees
Department director Rune Storvik in Nav had not been allowed to speak to the employees when he stood outside the office just after the man had been arrested.
– They are in dialogue with the police, he says.
He says that the police arrived quickly at the scene, and the employees will now be followed up.
– All the employees are gathered, and tenants in the building have been notified of the incident, he says.
