Members of the National Police from the Bambamarca rural police station, together with Divincri agents, captured this morning the alleged perpetrator of the crime of extortion, hitman and attempted homicide against the mayor of the Bolívar district, Pedro Melecio Rivera Echevarría, in the La Libertad region.
The head of the III Macro Police Region La Libertad, PNP General José Zavala, confirmed the capture.
As is known, Mayor Rivera Echevarría suffered an attack on the night of Monday, April 15, while he was dining with officials of the local commune at a restaurant in the area.
At around 8:00 pm, two unknown individuals arrived aboard a linear motorcycle and entered the establishment and shot the diners four times. However, the mayor managed to repel the attack.
After the exchange of gunfire, the criminals fled south towards the Bambamarca area.
As a result of the attack, two people were injured, a woman identified as Magdiel Ballazar Ballazar, who had a gunshot wound to the abdomen; as well as Gaifero Siccha Sánchez, a well-known political and social leader in the area, who was shot in the head.
