These types of presentations will continue to be repeated and will be added to those already established for different commemorative dates, but also to those referring to visits to schools and institutions within the framework of the celebrations for Children’s Day.
Gastón Galán, the band’s director, said that for this month they already have all the weekends occupied with performances for these celebrations with the little ones in different neighborhoods of Viedma and Patagones.
In this way, the Police Music Band also fulfills an important social and community function, bringing its art to different places in the province with a proposal that attracts both adults and children.
The band was formed in 1947 and currently has 50 members. For about 20 years, Commissioner Gastón Galán has been in charge of the direction of the band, which maintains its standard repertoire but also creates a space where there is room for songs that are heard today, giving a recreational aspect to the performances.
Throughout the year, the Band participates in police institution events as well as anniversaries, inaugurations and different events for which it is required.
As indicated, all this was added to spontaneous outings to play in Plaza Alsina, Plaza San Martín and Plaza Primera Junta in Viedma.
“People walk by and listen for a while. People who have left work for a while or are running errands walk by and listen for a while. People like it,” said Galán.
He also highlighted that thanks to the good moment of the Argentine national football team, classic songs that refer to the team were included in the repertoire, bringing smiles to those present.
“The idea is to continue with these spontaneous performances, to keep going out when the weather is good,” he added.
On the other hand, he pointed out, “The Band is a tradition, the large number of musicians is also what draws attention, in addition to how it sounds, the military part, the movements. All of that is a set of things that people like,” he concluded.
