Colombian Authorities Arrest Alleged Criminal in Drug Raid
Neiva, Colombia – A suspected criminal known by the alias "Simpson" was apprehended by Neiva Metropolitan Police on Monday during a raid in the city’s Timanco neighborhood.
Authorities seized a loaded 32-caliber firearm, 530 grams of marijuana prepared for sale, 3 vehicle mirrors and 835,000 Colombian pesos (approximately $1750 USD) during the operation.
"In the middle of the operation, a 32-caliber firearm with 6 cartridges for it, 3 vehicle mirrors, 530 grams of ready-to-dose marijuana and 835 thousand pesos were seized according to a statement received by the crime commission," a police report stated.
Simpson, whose real name has not been released, now faces serious charges that include drug trafficking, illegal weapons possession and transporting narcotics. A judge ordered Simpson be held in custody while awaiting trial.
"Judge decided to protect custody and bail with security measure at prison facility," the authorities’ report added.
The arrest follows a string of recent raids targeting narcotics trafficking rings in Colombia, reflecting the ongoing fight against organized crime in the South American nation.
