Police Arrest Suspect in Arson Cases, Operations Manager Says Area Can Relax

The suspect was arrested at 11.30pm on Sunday evening.

Operations manager Øyvind Schalla-Aasen in the Oslo police district says that the police are as sure as they can be that they have caught the right man.

At 12.30 on Sunday, the emergency services were notified of a fire in the entrance area to an office building at Hamangskogen.

The fire was extinguished after a few minutes, but the entrance was heavily damaged.

A couple of hours later it started to burn in the old parsonage and the church building on the hospital grounds at Blakstad. The older wooden building was heavily damaged in the fire.

In addition, there was also a fire in a garage in a housing estate in Billingstad on Sunday. The police believe all the fires were arson.

– We work with technical and tactical investigations, both in the form of crime scene investigations and questioning of victims and witnesses, according to the operations manager, who says there may be several incidents that the police have not become aware of until Sunday.
