The police arrested a district head alias Wusama sub-district head, Yahukimo, named Etius Baye (38) who was suspected of being involved in an armed criminal group (KKB) Papua. He is suspected of playing a role as a financier for the separatist group.
The arrest of the Etius sub-district head is a follow-up to the investigation into the murder of two PT Indo Papua workers on August 22, 2021.
“Investigators from the Yahukimo Police carried out an examination and found information that dozens of people related to the KKB were at the house of the Wusama District Head with the initials EB (38),” said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal to reporters, Wednesday (1/9).
This disclosure began with the arrest of a resident of Kali Biru City of Dekai named Herson Heluka (20) who was suspected of being involved in KKB activities.
Herson was arrested at the scene (TKP) of the murder of an employee of PT Indo Papua. After being questioned by the police, it was suspected that the camat was involved in the KKB activities.
He said that the Nemangkawi Operation Law Enforcement Task Force was immediately dispatched to the house of the Wusama district head to make arrests. In the process, the Etius sub-district head was arrested along with two colleagues named Yem Baye alias Umbai and Yaluk Heluka.
“Etius Baye (38), who is the Head of the Wusama District, acts as the brain and funder for KKB activities, Herson Heluka (20) is a driver who often delivers KKB needs, while Y is the nephew of Etius Baye (38), whose role is to prepare KKB logistics needs,” he explained.
Meanwhile, according to the police, Yaluk Heluka is a member of the KKB who often participates in attacks in the Cenderawasih region. Including, said Kamal, he was involved in the murder of four construction workers in Bingky Village, Seradala District at the end of last June.
The four people were later named suspects in suspected premeditated murder. They were detained at the Yahukimo Police Detention Center.
During the arrest, the police seized hundreds of arrows and 20 bows. Then, there are some sharp weapons such as knives and machetes. Police also found possession of an air rifle during the arrest.
