The police have registered a case against the owner and operator of the cable car in the case of cable car accident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. After the accident, the vehicle with passengers was hanging on one of the cable lines for about 12 hours. There were six children and two adults in the group. They are rescued after hours of efforts.
The police informed that the cable car service was being run by ignoring safety warnings. A senior Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police officer said that low-quality cables were used for the service and the machines had time to repair. The police stated that a notice was sent to the owner in June and a second notice was sent in August.
Police also said that the local administration had asked the owner to upgrade the machinery, improve the quality of cables and then apply for a safety certificate. The cable car operator was arrested as part of the investigation into the accident. The accident occurred on Tuesday after two of the three chairlift cables broke. In the incident, Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakkar has directed to inspect all cable cars and shut down those that do not comply with safety precautions.
Common in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and northern areas of Gilgit-Baltistan. Accidents of cable cars carrying passengers are also common here. Many of these are towns and villages that cannot be connected by road. Earlier in 2017, 10 passengers died in a mountain village near Islamabad after a cable broke and fell into a ravine.
