The police arrested another suspect on Monday for the fatal shooting incident at the train station in Purmerend on February 12. It concerns a nineteen-year-old boy from Landsmeer. He is only allowed to have contact with his lawyer, the police report.

In the days after the incident, the police arrested two sixteen-year-old boys from Purmerend and an eighteen-year-old Amsterdam resident. On February 21, a fifteen-year-old boy from Amsterdam was arrested. He is still in custody, police report.

On February 12, the police received a report of a shooting incident at Purmerend station around 8 p.m. A nineteen-year-old man from Purmerend died and a nineteen-year-old man from the municipality of Medemblik was seriously injured. He is still in hospital, police said on Monday.

After the shooting, police launched a large-scale search for possible suspects. Specialist dogs and helicopters were used. A Large-Scale Investigation Team was also immediately set up.

The police suspect that a conflict between young people in Purmerend may have caused the shooting incident. This is being further investigated. The police have not ruled out more arrests.

In consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, Mario Hegger, deputy mayor of Purmerend, has decided to install cameras at the station and nearby youth centers, reported NH News earlier. “We want to create a safe place for young people to gather,” Hegger said.
