Police arrest motorist who still has to pay 1.5 million euros

That has been announced by the police. Via an automatic number plate recognizer, the man’s car was noticed when he entered the Netherlands on the A76 from Belgium. The police stopped the vehicle because the judge had imposed a confiscation order of more than 1.5 million euros on the driver.

For failure to pay, the man was jailed for 1080 days.

The amount of money had been claimed by the CJIB. The driver did have money with him, but according to the police it was “just not enough” to pay the outstanding amount. “That means he has now been detained for 1080 days,” police said.

It is not known why the man had to pay so much money.
