Police arrest head of the Depincri for alleged bribery collection

Police point out that the Public Ministry wants to “cleanse itself” with his arrest.

Members of the Anti-Corruption Directorate of the National Police preliminarily detained the head of the Depincri of Cercado de Lima, PNP commander Ricardo Vargas Contreras, for allegedly collecting a bribe of S/ 2,500.

Along with the police command, three police officers were arrested who would have been Vargas’s accomplices in collecting a bribe in exchange for releasing a citizen who had been detained.

The injured party reported the incident and thanks to a judicial resolution, the arrest of those involved in the alleged crime of passive bribery was carried out.

Before the Public Ministry, the PNP commander denied having collected a bribe and indicated that his arrest was due to the Prosecutor’s Office wanting to “cleanse itself” after a prosecutor was arrested for collecting a bribe.

Both the head of the Depincri de Cercado de Lima and his alleged associates will be detained for seven days until their situation is resolved.
