The police found a large quantity of heavy firearms in an international investigation on Monday morning. Six suspects were arrested, including the ‘Godmother’ of Amsterdam.
This concerns a long-term investigation by the National Investigation and Intervention Unit led by the National Public Prosecutor’s Office, in collaboration with Colombia and Spain.
The investigation was started due to intercepted messages via crypto platform Sky ECC. Thanks to these messages, the police were able to arrest a 47-year-old woman with Dutch and Colombian nationality in Colombia.
The woman was involved in the trafficking of narcotics from South America. The police suspect that she was directly involved in the import of an intercepted shipment of 230 kilos of cocaine to Spain.
The woman is said to be described in the criminal circuit as a major player in the cocaine trade and earns a lot of money from it. She would also be called the ‘Godmother’ of Amsterdam. In 2017, she was convicted of preparing drug smuggling.
Five people arrested in the Netherlands
Five suspects were arrested in the Netherlands, in Amsterdam, Zoetermeer, Schiedam and Ridderkerk. This concerns one woman and four men, aged 29 to 62, with Dutch and Nigerian nationalities.
Investigations were carried out in 29 buildings in Amsterdam, Diemen, Aalsmeer, Purmerend, Rotterdam, Spijkenisse, Schiedam, Ridderkerk and Zoetermeer, during which the police made major discoveries. Firearms were found in several homes. In a house in Rotterdam, the police found an arsenal of (automatic) firearms and a rocket launcher. The rocket launcher appeared to be ready for use.
The police seized a total of more than 25 firearms and associated ammunition. She also seized kilos of cocaine, more than 400,000 euros in cash, cars, jewelry and data carriers.
