Police arrest concert ticket scammers Coldplay with the initials BT (23), who is also a private university student in Semarang, Central Java. The perpetrator was handcuffed when shown in front of the media crew.
The West Jakarta Metro Police revealed the fraudulent actions carried out by BT in a press conference at the West Jakarta Police on Friday (9/6/2023). The perpetrator wearing an orange prison suit was shown at the press conference.
The perpetrator looks to have white skin with a chubby body. The perpetrator looked down and did not say any words when presented at the press conference.
Previously, the police arrested a man with the initials BT (23) in connection with a fraudulent sale and purchase of Coldplay concert tickets in Semarang, Central Java. BT is a student at a private university in Semarang.
“So the person concerned lives according to his ID card in Pemalang, Central Java, but everyday he works as a student at a private university in Semarang. So he lives in Semarang,” said West Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes M Syahduddi at the West Jakarta Police, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, Friday (9/6/2023).
Syahduddi said that there was one victim, with the initials DA, with a total loss of IDR 5,500,000. He said the perpetrator claimed to have Coldplay concert tickets and sold them on social media.
“Initially the perpetrator via Twitter social media with the account @coldplayJKT provided information that the person concerned or this actor would sell Coldplay tickets, then from several people who responded, one person who was a reporter on behalf of this DA then replied to the perpetrator’s tweet on this Twitter media and then continue with communication via WA,” he said.
He said the perpetrator immediately blocked the victim’s number when the money was sent. For information, the victim is a resident of Taman Sari, West Jakarta.
“And when the money has entered the perpetrator’s virtual account, then the victim’s cellphone number is immediately blocked so that it is difficult for the victim to communicate with the perpetrator,” he said.
Furthermore, Syahduddi said the perpetrator was a student majoring in computers who understood activity on social media. The perpetrator was arrested by a joint team from the Taman Sari Police and West Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
“Incidentally, this perpetrator also studied computer majoring. So more or less understand activities on social media, that’s why many victims or the modus operandi of crimes committed originate from activities on social media,” he said.
As a result of his actions, the perpetrator is charged with Article 378 of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of 4 years in prison.
