The police quickly considered a political background for the crime. A connection with a recent announcement by Hartmann that in future he wants to hold a vigil for the Corona dead on the Kitzinger Marktplatz every Sunday was apparently also the subject of the investigation.
A 27-year-old suspect was provisionally arrested on Friday morning. At the request of the Würzburg public prosecutor’s office, he was brought before the investigating judge at the district court on Saturday. Due to the urgent suspicion of particularly serious arson, the latter issued a pre-trial arrest warrant, which was suspended subject to conditions.
The vehicle parked in Obere Neue Gasse caught fire on Friday, February 4th. The suspicion of intentional arson had been substantiated over the course of the week after the fire investigators from the Würzburg Criminal Police Office, together with specialists from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office, were able to prove beyond any doubt the remains of an incendiary accelerator on the vehicle wreck.
