The growing trend of mukbang to vlogs about food has sparked many people to present creative and interesting content while eating. Some content creators are even willing to do anything so that they can go viral and have their videos watched by many people.

One of them is the act of mukbang eating extreme and controversial foods such as bats and sharks. Then the action of imitating the cooking style of famous chefs and much more.

But who would have thought that these actions would actually invite trouble and make them have to deal with legal channels.

Here are four stories of acts of eating that ended in police arrest.

1. Eat Baby White Sharks

A well-known food vlogger from China, Tizi, must bear the risk of his actions breaking the law. He himself went viral after the mukbang of a baby white shark in one of his videos. Tizi went to jail and paid a fine for being found guilty of illegally purchasing rare and endangered wildlife.

Lawyers named Chang Yachun explained, Tizi received a lighter sentence than the maximum demands. If the crime he committed is serious, Tizi can be jailed for 10 years and fined in the form of confiscation of property.

Tizi had claimed that the sharks he ate were bought from farms, not hunted. However, netizens are not so easily fooled. Until finally this case was investigated by the police and Tizi was sentenced to prison.

2. Mukbang Bat Soup

Bat soup was labeled negatively because it was rumored to be the cause of the Covid-19 pandemic. A blogger in Thailand also drew criticism and ended up being arrested by the police after eating this controversial menu.

Blogger Phonchanok Srisunaklua uploaded a moment of himself eating bat soup to his YouTube channel Bep Nua Nua (Eating Spicy and Delicious). It looked like a whole bat was in the blackish-gray soup. The soup is also equipped with a garnish in the form of cherry tomatoes.

Gegara video eats a bat and praises its delicious taste. The YouTuber, who is also a teacher, has been arrested on charges of “possession of a carcass of a protected wildlife” and “crime in violation of the Computer Crimes Act (2007)”.
