Police apologized for killing an English attacker

British police have officially sent an apology to the family of former Aston Villa striker Dalian Atkinson. It comes six months after the murder conviction, after which a police officer went to jail for Atkinson’s death.

The former footballer, who has one match for the “B” national team of England, and in his career has played for Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday, Real Sociedad, Fenerbahce, Metz, Manchester City, as well as Saudi Al Ittihad and Korean Daejeon and Jeonbuk was killed on August 15, 2016.

The officer in question, Ben Monk, then electrocuted Atkinson and then kicked him. Police intervened after Dalian’s father complained that his son had threatened to kill him.

The former attacker later died at the hospital. Atkinson suffered from a serious illness that affected his physical and mental condition and led to a quarrel with his father, which ended in death after police intervention.

“The police uniform does not give our employees immunity and the right to violate the law and abuse force,” said an official statement from Herefordshire police.

The years at Aston Villa were the strongest in Atkinson’s career – there he scored 25 goals in 85 games. He resigned in 2011 at the age of 33.

In his only match for England, although for the “B” team, he scored the only goal – 1: 4 against the double of Ireland.
