Polestar and StoreDot Engineers Develop Ultra-Fast Charging Solution for Electric Cars

Engineers have found a solution for a very fast charging process, which will significantly reduce the time you currently have to spend waiting for the battery of your electric car to charge it for the next trip.

The Swedish Polestar, part of the Chinese car company Geely, is working with the fast battery pioneer StoreDot on a super fast charging process that would eliminate the downtime that is so unpleasant for many when building electric car batteries .

The Polestar 5 prototype with an experimental 77kWh battery with a silicon controlled design is reported to be used for this purpose. Engineers managed to charge a fully functional electric car battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 10 minutes, and it is noted that the 77 kWh battery can be increased to 100 kWh, which would extend range​​​​ medium size electricity. car with 320 kilometers in 10 minutes in the future.

It is also surprising to find that the power does not fall, as usual, but remains the same or even increases. It was found during the test, when the charging started at 310 kW, at the end of the charging process the power reached a maximum value of more than 370 kW, and this happens all the time when you are in the cost range between 10 and 80 percent.

The XFC test was conducted by Polestar and StoreDot engineers to demonstrate the suitability of XFC battery technology for future Polestar vehicles. StoreDot’s new XFC technology uses silicon-controlled cells with energy densities comparable to state-of-the-art NMC cells. They do not require any special cooling systems in the car. At the same time, the pressure is maintained or even reduced. No less important features are also a high level of recycling and simple maintenance.

The test proved that XFC technology is compatible with today’s DC charging infrastructure, where charging stations with a capacity of 350 kW or more are increasingly being installed.
