Polestar 2 is now on its way to Norwegian customers

The first copies of Polestar 2 are in place in Europe, the car manufacturer reports in a press release. The cars are manufactured in China and are now delivered to Zeebrugge in Belgium for further distribution.

The main weight of the cars will be to Norway and Sweden, and the first customer cars will be delivered in August. At the same time, Polestar reports that they will soon open to order a test drive of the car.

“A few hundred” cars have come to Europe so far, and Polestar can’t tell us how many of these are coming to Norway, nor when the pace of delivery will pick up. However, those who ordered a car first will also get a car first.

Polestar has not spent how many orders they have received from Norway.

Polestar has so far opened an exhibition space in Oslo, and is in the process of opening a new one on Solsiden in Trondheim. Here the car will be exhibited from next month and it will be possible to test drive.

Possibility of upgraded dampers and brakes

The manufacturer has also recently launched the upgrade “Performance pack”, which is possible to add new orders. This includes adjustable dampers, Brembo brake system, 20 inch rims and some changes in design details. However, the package gives no increased engine performance, and costs an extra NOK 50,000.

This extra package cannot be added to already booked cars.

Polestar 2 is an outspoken competitor to the Tesla Model 3. On paper, the two are also quite similar in many areas, but the China-Swede tends to be more practical. For example, this is not a sedan, but a fastback or combination. Thus, for example, it is possible to have a dog in the trunk.

It can also be delivered with a towbar, which can pull 500 kg more than Model 3 with 1.5 tonnes.

Polestar 2 has four-wheel drive with a front and rear engine. The total maximum power is 300 kilowatts, compared to 258 on the Model 3, or 340 kilowatts on the “Performance” version.

In terms of performance, the Polestar 2 is closer to the Model 3 with four-wheel drive, but without high performance, as zero to one hundred is given to 4.7 seconds. It’s 0.1 seconds slower than Model 3. More than enough acceleration for most, we’d think.

A little cheaper

In terms of price, the Polestar 2 is a notch cheaper than the Model 3, with a total price of NOK 469,000 before extra equipment is added. A Model 3 with four-wheel drive costs just over NOK 499,000 in basic configuration.

It is not straight forward to compare prices of cars, as the basic equipment level is different and the range is not the same. For example, three years of service and three years of connected services are included. At Tesla, no service is included (but this is also not required), and connected services are only included for one year. The range of the Model 3 is 560 km, while that of the Polestar 2 is 470 km.

In any case, it is quite clear that Polestar has come close to the popular Tesla model, both in specifications and price compared to equipment level.

By the way, Polestar 2 is built on the same platform as the Volvo XC40 P8 AWD electric car, which is likely to become the Geely group’s real electric major seller in this country.

The two cars are quite similar in specifications, with 300 kilowatts maximum power on the engines, and 0-100 km / h in 4.9 seconds. The range is stated at 400 kilometers, which is probably because the XC40 is an SUV and thus less aerodynamic than the Polestar 2.
