Poles demonstrate against stricter abortion law | Abroad

Thousands of people took part in a demonstration in the Polish capital of Warsaw and demonstrations were also held in other cities such as Poznan, Wroclaw and Krakow in the west and south of the country.

The coronavirus has banned more than ten people on the street in Poland, Protesters again stood at the home of Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the leader of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, where protesters clashed with the police on Thursday . They carried signs with texts like “This is war” and “You have blood on your hands.”

Yesterday, the Polish Constitutional Court ruled to no longer allow abortion if the fetus shows serious and irreparable abnormalities. That category makes up about 98 percent of all legal abortions in the country. Due to the amended law, there will be an almost total ban on premature termination of pregnancy in the country. Poland already has one of the strictest abortion rules in the EU anyway. Only if the pregnancy threatens the life or health of the mother or if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest, abortion is still allowed.
