All of our readers must have heard that many cultural institutions were forced to close during the winter. The drastic increase in utility costs has also reached the Polaris Observatory: the price of gas has risen elevenfold for us, and we also pay multiple times for electricity. We have always tried to operate economically, and we will do so even more in the future, but it is impossible to manage such an increase.
Currently, the temperature in Polaris’ premises is 8-10 degrees, we only heat the office during opening hours, and on Thursdays the lecture hall where we hold our professional sessions.
During January and March, we will also hold the Tuesday and Thursday telescope presentations, but we will move our Tuesday lecture series to Thursday. The Polaris store will also be open during the winter period during the Tuesday and Thursday presentations.
Our children and youth specialist group is held on Thursdays. The sessions of our detection department can be held during January-March at the Csillagtanya or online. (At the Csillagtanya, we do not heat with gas, so the overhead costs are not so dramatic there.) We inform the participants of the sessions in good time.
The activities of the Polaris Star Observatory can be supported by volunteer work, by participating in telescope demonstrations and group visits, or by donating money. It’s subsidies Sky webshop via bank card, bank transfer, donations sent to the bank account of the Hungarian Astronomical Association (62900177-16700448).
