Eisbären Berlin are reacting to the fixed start of the 2020 PENNY DEL season as well as the nomination of Tobias Ancicka, Nino Kinder and Lukas Reichel for the IIHF U20 World Championship in Canada and have signed Kris Foucault. The striker changes from the Krefeld Penguins to the record champions and receives a one-year contract. Last season, Foucault played for ERC Ingolstadt and scored 42 points (16 goals & 26 assists) in 52 games.
“When the Krefeld penguins approached us, we didn’t have to think twice. Kris Foucault is a strong attacking player who knows where the goal is. He has proven that in the past. We waited a long time before making any further commitments because we didn’t know whether there would be a season at all. We also wanted to see Sean Backman’s recovery process. We had hoped that Sean could be there again at the start of the season, but unfortunately it doesn’t look like that. This situation, coupled with the nomination of our boys for the U20 World Cup in Canada, forced us to act. We are happy that we found an alternative in Kris Foucault, ”said Eisbären sporting director Stéphane Richer.
Kris Foucault was born on December 12, 1990 in Calgary, Canada, where he received his training in the youth field. The 29-year-old came to Europe in 2014 through various stations in Canada and the USA. There he played for the Vienna Capitals, GC Küsnacht Lions and ZSC Lions. In 2016 the striker then switched to the PENNY DEL to the Grizzlys Wolfsburg, for which he scored 27 goals and 20 assists in 3 years. Foucault played for ERC Ingolstadt last season and moved to Krefeld in summer 2020.
At the Eisbären Berlin, Foucault, who played an NHL game for the Minnesota Wild in 2009, is number 98 on his back.
This means that the Berliners have so far issued 6 foreign licenses and have five more available. Out of a total of 11 license holders, 9 per game may be listed on the score sheet at the same time and thus be used in PENNY DEL competitive games.
Jacob Ingham will not have a license for the time being. The 20-year-old keeper from the LA Kings organization came to Berlin on loan at the end of September and was preparing for the polar bears. He was last used last Thursday at the MagentaSport Cup match in Mannheim. From now on he is training again in North America.
