The police in Canada recently received a highly unusual case on the block. On 22 January, a report came in that a robbery had been committed at the Lionsheart Wholeness Center resort at Lily Lake, north of the city of Edmonton.
It turned out that a bizarre raid had been carried out in the dead of night. Because it wasn’t cash that had been stolen, but a huge bass of a stiff 3.6 metres.
Carefully planned
In the middle of the night, while the mercury in the thermometer dropped to 30 degrees below zero, someone had broken into the property and simply stolen a stuffed polar bear.
Resort manager Wanda Rowe tells local media that the thieves cut the cables that were attached to the fully erect giant standing on a second-floor balcony.

The polar bear, which weighs around 225 kilograms and goes by the name “Harry”, left marks in the parquet where it was dragged across the floor. The thieves then took the giant down the stairs and out through the double front doors to a waiting car.
Rowe tells St. Albert Gazette that there was very little traffic that night, and that people staying the night were in other parts of the property.
– It must have been one hundred percent planned, she says in a comment reproduced by BBC.

Stolen raccoons
This is not the first stuffed animal to disappear from the Lionsheart Wholeness Centre
According to the police, the resort was subjected to a “similar incident” in August last year, when two stuffed raccoons were stolen from the property in connection with a burglary.

The value of the three animals has been estimated at 35,000 Canadian dollars, which corresponds to just over NOK 274,000.

Dropped the guard
An employee at the resort site has told St. Albert Gazette that they have 24-hour security patrols, but that this was canceled that very evening as a result of the bitter cold.
– It is undeniably a bit ironic: Stolen on the coldest day of the year, and then a polar bear in the center of Alberta, comments Wanda Rowe to the local TV channel CTV News.

Police constable Kelsey Davidge is asking local residents to keep an eye out, in case the thieves try to sell the polar bear online. Because as she herself states:
– No matter where you see it, it will stick out straight away, won’t it?
