Poland’s Role in Defending Ukraine and Strengthening NATO – The Polish Government’s Actions and the Impact on Russian Aggression

The Polish government did everything that needed to be done at that time. However, it was not about putting everything on one card. Unlike Ukraine, Poland is part of NATO, the largest defense alliance in the history of the world. The transfer of such a huge number of tanks was subject to consultation with the alliance authorities. If the Russians defeated the Ukrainians, occupied the entire territory of our eastern neighbor and appeared on the border with our country, then all NATO countries, led by the USA, would help us repel the attack.

A few days before the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the United States began transporting huge amounts of military equipment to Poland, which was later transported to Ukraine. The railway and the airport in Radom played a huge role here. Many sources indicate that Washington had an agreement with the Polish authorities from the very beginning. Our country was to help Ukraine, and in return, our army was to receive new weapons at an accelerated pace that would strengthen our defense potential.

Bombers, fighters and reconnaissance planes began to fly over Eastern Europe, including Poland, and as part of exercises and strengthening defense, ships capable of repelling a missile attack from Russia entered ports. If the Polish Army had not reacted so quickly, many Poles today would have to expect to flee from Poland if Russia attacked our country, or to live in eternal fear if Putin’s army stood on the border with Belarus or Ukraine.

Military experts from the USA and Ukraine have no doubt that since the outbreak of the war and later the Ukrainian counteroffensive, the most important aspect of operations on the front has been and is the elimination of as many Russian soldiers and heavy equipment as possible. This is intended to weaken the power of the Russian army, which is a force to be reckoned with. This was achieved because Pentagon representatives reported that for a fraction of the annual US military budget, the Russians were deprived of half of their army’s combat capability.

It is estimated that in a conventional war, Russia would not be able to fight the Polish army, let alone the entire NATO. The best example of this is the fact that Russia has not had any significant successes in capturing important Ukrainian cities for over a year. For three weeks, the aggressors in the style of “meat attacks” have not been able to capture Avdiivka, let alone attack Kharkov, Sloviansk or Kiev. According to ISW, the Russians lost at least 200,000 soldiers and 300,000 were wounded.
