Poland’s plans to produce South Korean tanks face obstacles / Article

The contract with the South Korean manufacturer “Hyundai Rotem” for the purchase of K2 tanks produced in Poland was expected to be signed at the international defense and security exhibition, which will be held in first week of September in Kelce. However, according to the newspaper, the signing of the contract is being postponed.

According to the Polish-South Korean agreement that ended in July 2022, the Polish armed forces will receive 1,000 K2 tanks. 500 of them must be manufactured and maintained in Poland.

The first 180 tanks from South Korea have already been delivered. On the other hand, the Minister of Defense of Poland, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamis, previously announced that the next batch of 180 tanks will be produced in Poland.

However, it is not yet possible to achieve this goal. According to “Rzeczpospolita”, it will take at least a year and a half to bring production technology to Poland alone. In addition, negotiations on the purchase of tanks are delayed due to the lack of agreement between the executors of the contract on the Polish territory, as well as uncertainty regarding the financing of the contract.
