Poland’s New Government Fires Controversial State Media Heads and Intelligence Services Leadership

Poland’s new government announced today that it is firing the heads of controversial state media, largely seen as government mouthpieces during the recent rule of right-wing populists, AFP reported.

The chairmen and management boards of the state television, radio and news agency have been dismissed, the Polish Ministry of Culture announced in a statement following a new parliamentary resolution on “restoring the legal order and the independence and reliability of the public media”, cited as the reason for the decision.

Earlier, the new cabinet of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, former president of the European Council, fired the leadership of the intelligence services. Parties in the current government accuse their predecessors of using the structures against their political opponents.
