Poland’s Lubjatów-Kopalina NPP: Construction, Reactors, and Benefits of Nuclear Power

Lubjatów-Kopalina NPP will be located about 70 kilometers northwest of Gdańsk.

The consortium, which includes the US companies “Westinghouse” and “Bechtel”, signed the contract with the Polish state company “Polskie Elektroownie Jadrowe” (PEJ).

It has already been reported that “Westinghouse” won the tender for the construction of Poland’s first NPP last year.

On the other hand, Poland has selected the South Korean company “Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power” for the construction of its second NPP.

Each NPP will have three reactors. It is planned that the first NPP will start operating in 2033.

The construction of both NPPs will cost the Polish state about 40 billion euros.

Poland wants nuclear power to replace aging coal-fired power plants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
