Poland takes the step and asks for Germany’s endorsement to send its Leopard tanks to Ukraine

They had announced it and they have complied in less than 24 hours. Poland has taken the step this Tuesday and has formalized its request to Germany to authorize the shipment of Leopard 2 tanks – from the Polish Army – to Ukraine, a mandatory issue as it deals with heavy German-made weapons to supply a State at war.

This was announced by the Polish Defense Minister, Mariusz Błaszczak, noting that “the Germans have already received our request for consent to the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.” Specifically, they have requested authorization to send 14 of these vehicles.

“I also call on the German side to join the coalition of countries supporting Ukraine with ‘Leopard 2’ tanks”

In the same way, the head of Defense of Poland has insisted on the line of pressure on Germany exerted by his Government and has urged the Executive of Chancellor Olaf Scholz to change its position of rejection or indecision to send the battle tanks that the Army Ukrainian needs to make a qualitative leap in a war conflict that is going through a new stage, in which it is crucial to obtain this weaponry to stand up to the Russian invasion.

“I also call on the German side to join the coalition of countries supporting Ukraine with ‘Leopard 2’ tanks. This is our common cause, because it is about the security of the whole of Europe!” Blaszczak.

US believes Berlin could agree to handover

The request for the guarantee by Poland constitutes a clear response to the statements of the German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, who qualified in an interview on French television LCI that Germany was not opposed to third countries supplying Leopard. “They have not asked us the question so far, but if they do, we are not going to oppose it,” he said on Sunday.

According to US intelligence, this gesture would be closer to taking place than ever and the possibility is growing that in the next few hours or days Berlin will grant permission to third countries to deliver German-made Leopard tanks to the Ukrainian Army.

“We have no doubt that Germany is a reliable ally on this front and on all fronts,” US State Department spokesman Ned Price said at a press conference.
