Poland has seized a building in Warsaw that housed a Russian secondary school. “This building belongs to the city of Warsaw,” said a spokesman for the Polish foreign ministry.
The building is located near the Russian embassy in the Polish capital. Children of diplomats were taught there. Images show how the Polish authorities break open the gate of the school.
The seizure followed an order from a bailiff. According to the ministry, the school should be owned by the Polish state and Russia illegally obtained the property. “The court has confirmed our suspicions,” says a spokesperson.
The Russian ambassador to Poland speaks of an illegal move. “This is an illegal action,” Sergey Andreev told Russia’s state news agency RIA. “It is a violation of the Vienna Convention.”
This treaty stipulates, among other things, that no official residence of a diplomat can be seized. Many teachers and staff live on the territory of the school. According to the ambassador, Russia will “obviously” respond.
