Officials say that discussions on the preparation of Poland’s request have been going on for several months.
“I dedicate this decision to the 10-, 12- and 15-year-olds of today. [Polijas iedzīvotājiem]. Poland will formally begin work on its bid to host the Olympic Games. Time will tell if this is possible. We take this very seriously. We didn’t manage to organize a single thing. Maybe not on that scale, but who knows, if Poland is stable, it can achieve great things,” said the Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk.
State sports minister Slavomirs Nitras also believes that the country is ready to host the games.
Polish President Andrzej Duda already announced last year that he intends to submit his country’s bid to host the Summer Olympic Games in 2036.
Poland had never hosted the Olympic Games. In 2012, Poland together with Ukraine hosted the European football championship.
It is known that the German capital, Berlin, is also planning to bid to host the 2040 Olympic Games.
