Poland has pressured France to give up the Mistrals – 2024-08-21 11:46:15

/ world today news/ France has canceled the deal with Russia for Mistral-type helicopter carriers because of pressure from NATO, admit the members of the committee on international relations in the Senate.

“There was strong external pressure from the countries of Eastern Europe within the framework of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly,” admitted the rapporteur in the Senate committee, Robert del Picchia. “Poland has threatened France to end negotiations for the purchase of 50 Caracal helicopters in the amount of 2.5 billion euros, in case of providing helicopter carriers to Russia,” said the French senator.

After canceling the contract with Moscow on August 5, Paris quickly found a new buyer in the person of Egypt. On September 23, the Elysée Palace announced that President Francois Hollande had a telephone conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and that the two “reached an agreement in principle on the terms of Egypt’s purchase of two Mistral helicopter carriers.” According to the Ministry of France’s defense, Paris hopes to resell them at the same price it agreed with Russia – 950 million euros. However, according to experts, the French defense industry will still suffer significant losses. “Yes, it must be admitted that the profit of the company DCNS will be less than expected”, said the reporter Robert del Picchia, in response to a question from his fellow senators. The losses could be 200-250 million euros. / TASS
