Poland has a record number of new cases of Covid-19 in the world

In Poland, infection with the new coronavir was detected in 20,156 people in 24 hours, the highest number of people infected per day since the pandemic began, the Polish health minister said on Thursday.

This is the first time that more than 20,000 cases of Covid-19 have been detected in a day.

If an increase of 2,500 to 3,000 infections per day is observed in the coming days, unfortunately, new strict restrictions may be introduced, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health said.

301 Covid-19 patients have died in the past 24 hours, according to data released by the ministry.

In Poland, a total of more than 319,000 people have been diagnosed with the new coronavirus, of whom 5,149 have died.

In recent weeks, there have been growing concerns that the Polish healthcare system has reached its limits and that hospitals may soon run out of beds and staff.

Hospitals in Poland treat more than 14,600 Covid-19 patients, of whom more than 1,200 require artificial lung ventilation.

Almost 70% of lung ventilators in Poland are currently occupied, the ministry said.

The first temporary hospital was set up in Krakow this week, and it is planned to open such hospitals in centers in other regions.
