Itar-Tass reported on August 3 local time that Poland had deployed armed helicopters to the border area with Belarus. Polish General Marek Sokolowski said in a meeting with Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błašczak that the helicopter gunships were armed and ready to go into battle in case of an emergency in the border area. Sokolowski also said that Polish helicopter gunship pilots have actual combat experience during their service in Afghanistan. Once the situation on the border “dangerously changes”, they “will not hesitate to use weapons.”
