This was the landscape right after Friday’s Poland-Czech Republic match at the National Stadium, where a 1-1 draw tasted like defeat. This result means that we will definitely have to fight in the March play-offs to qualify for next year’s European Championships.
It was the very end of the match, the last corner kick for the Polish national team was won by substitute Kamil Grosicki. The Pogoń Szczecin winger, who appeared on the pitch in the 73rd minute for Damian Szymański, immediately ran to the corner. Before kicking the ball, he looked towards the penalty area. Everyone was there – including Wojciech Szczęsny, who ran across the pitch and also tried to help score the winning goal. It didn’t work, although it wasn’t that much of a miss, because the ball after Jan Bednarek’s header flew just over the crossbar.

Probierz was then noticed on the pitch by the visiting coach, Jaroslav Silhavy, who shook his hand, but our coach continued to follow Orsato, who after a while disappeared in the tunnel leading to the locker room, where Probierz also entered.

And after a while he revealed what he wanted to talk to Orsato about immediately after the match: – I don’t know, I guess I have to ask my fellow referees, because it’s the first time I’ve encountered something where a player can’t stand in an offside position. I have never had a referee pay attention to the fact that someone was offside and kick him offside. It’s incomprehensible to me. We train set pieces to know how to behave in such situations, and here we see pictures in which the referee confuses us all with his behavior.
After the match, Touchstone followed Orsato towards the locker room, but his players stayed on the pitch for a few more minutes. First, they gathered in the center circle, where Grosicki, Szczęsny and Lewandowski spoke. And after a while they tried to approach the almost empty stands. It was another unpleasant picture, because the fans did not want to accept thanks for their support and cheering. They booed the Polish representatives, who had a disastrous qualifying period for Euro 2024.
The disappointment is huge, but despite this, Poland still has a chance to advance to the tournament, which will be held in Germany next year. However, the Touchstone team has a difficult task ahead of them, because at the end of March they will have to fight for promotion in two-stage play-offs. The rivals will be announced on November 24.
