The migration crisis on the border between Belarus and European countries began at the end of May.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki commented on the need to build a fence on the border with Belarus. The politician called the fence a way to protect against migratory blackmail, his words are quoted by Polskie Radio on October 16.
“The construction of a fence on the Polish-Belarusian border will help protect Poland from migratory blackmail in the long term – in this case, by Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin. We do not want to be blackmailed,” the Polish prime minister said.
The migration crisis on the border of Belarus and the EU countries began at the end of May, after Alexander Lukashenko’s threats to weaken control over the flows of illegal immigrants against the backdrop of yet another aggravation of relations with the West. The Polish authorities, as well as the Baltic states, decided to install a barbed wire fence on the border with Belarus.
