WARSAW – Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said his country accepted the United States (USA) offer to build the first nuclear power plant.

According to Morawiecki on Friday (10/28/2022), Westinghouse Electric Co. will receive a contract to build the reactor, the first of which is expected to be completed by 2033.

“A strong Polish-US alliance guarantees the success of our joint initiative,” Morawiecki tweeted on Friday.

He added, “The decision to use Westinghouse’s reliable and secure technology was made after talks with Vice President Kamala Harris and US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm.

Morawiecki also thanked US Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski, who presented Westinghouse’s proposal last month.

South Korea’s state-owned Korean nuclear power plant also submitted a bid for the project in April.
