For the safety of all road users, the police control traffic all year round. On Thursday, the nationwide day of action “sicher.mobil.leben” focused on checking road users for the influence of alcohol and drugs on the road.

More than 1,200 road users were checked at a total of 44 checkpoints (Biberach: 8, Göppingen: 10, Heidenheim: 6, Ulm and Alb-Donau-Kreis: 9, traffic police across headquarters: 11). Overall, the police counted 58 traffic violations. In addition to 13 violations due to alcohol and drugs (GP: 4, HDH: 7, UL: 2), there were also 24 cell phone violations (BC: 5, GP: 4, HDH: 3, UL: 8, VPI: 4). In addition, the traffic police stopped 12 drivers who violated the rules on driving and rest times.

Regardless of participation in road traffic, the inspectors brought 58 further offenses to light (HDH: 4, UL: 22, VPI: 17). The officials discovered 51 administrative offences, four criminal offenses and even one person who was to be arrested.

The largest of the 44 checkpoints was on the A7 in the direction of Würzburg, at the Härtsfeld car park. Police officers from the police headquarters in Einsatz and Ulm carried out checks there together with customs as part of security cooperation. Four police dogs were also on duty there. Customs also used an X-ray system to find drugs hidden in vehicles. Police and customs found six traffic violations and three other violations among the 90 people checked there.

Police note: “Whether legal drugs such as alcohol and medication or illegal drugs such as narcotics, they do not belong on the road,” says the police. These agents limit perception, misjudge speed and distance, narrow field of vision, impair reaction and coordination, and disinhibit. Driving a vehicle requires maximum concentration. This is not possible under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The police therefore advise against driving under the influence of such substances. So that everyone arrives safely.
