Unknown perpetrators have been using a vicious scam in Siegen-Wittgenstein for the past few weeks. They used the digital credit and debit card function to freely dispose of victims’ money. This resulted in financial damage in the four-digit range.
Initially, scammers get in touch by phone. The authors pose as bank advisors and report suspicious wire transfers. The wrong bank employee argues that in this case safety precautions must be taken immediately. He pretends to have stored these changes in the system for the injured party.
The author then asks for the data needed to set up a digital debit or credit card in the AppleWallet. To complete setup, you need to submit or approve a TAN via your bank’s authenticator app. The authors pretend that they need this TAN or the release to complete the safety precautions.
If the perpetrators obtain the consent or the TAN of the injured party, they are free to use the card anywhere. By the way, they can also withdraw money at supermarket checkouts.
