Baltmannsweiler (ES), Mössingen (TÜ) and Rangendingen (ZAK): Fraud using the Whatsapp messenger service – warning
In the past few days, scammers have been active on the WhatsApp messenger service several times. They contacted potential victims and posed as daughters or the son. The fraudsters then persuaded the victims to transfer larger sums of money.
In one case, a woman from Baltmannsweiler received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number with the salutation “Hello Mama”. In another case, a woman from Mössingen received a WhatsApp message from her supposed son. In the third case, a family from Rangendingen was affected, where the salutation “Hello Mama” was also used. An explanation then followed as to why the WhatsApp message was sent from a different cell phone number than usual. The perpetrators wrote that the old cell phone was allegedly washed in the washing machine or broke. As soon as the victims reacted to the news, an emergency was feigned and explained that a transfer to a bank account was urgently needed. In all cases, the victims then transferred several thousand euros.
In this context, the police advise:
-If you are contacted by what you think is your relative or acquaintance on an unknown number, do not save the number automatically.
-Fragen Sie bei der Ihnen bekannten Person unter der alten Nummer nach.
-Forderungen nach Geldüberweisungen über WhatsApp und andere Messenger sollten immer misstrauisch machen und überprüft werden.
-Achten Sie auf die Sicherheitseinstellungen Ihres verwendeten Nachrichtendienstes.
-Falls Sie nach einer Aufforderung bereits eine Überweisung getätigt haben, kontaktieren Sie sofort die Bank und veranlassen Sie eine Rücküberweisung.
-Stellt sich heraus, dass es sich um einen Betrug handelt, erstatten Sie Anzeige bei Ihrer örtlichen Polizeidienststelle.
-Löschen Sie keinesfalls den Chatverlauf. (ms)
