The Ludwigshafen police pulled two intoxicated drivers out of traffic during checks on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Tuesday afternoon (October 1st, 2024, around 5:45 p.m.) police officers checked an 18-year-old driver on Strandweg. The man showed signs of being under the influence of drugs. A urine test confirmed the officers’ suspicions. This reacted positively to THC and amphetamine.

A 24-year-old e-scooter driver was checked on the Konrad-Adenauer-Brücke early Wednesday morning (October 2nd, 2024, around 3:30 a.m.). The officers smelled alcohol from the driver. A breath alcohol test showed a level of 0.99 per mille. There were also indications that the 24-year-old could also be under the influence of THC. However, the driver refused a corresponding preliminary test.

After the checks, both drivers were taken to a police station, where a blood sample was taken from each of them.

The influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances is a main cause of accidents. Anyone who drives while intoxicated not only endangers themselves, but also others. The same limits regarding alcohol and drugs apply when riding an e-scooter as when driving a car. Administrative offense proceedings were initiated against each of the intoxicated drivers. The driving license office can also check the suitability of drivers.

Due to current events, we would like to point out that the limit for cannabis while driving has been raised to 3.5 ng THC per ml blood serum, but be careful:

-If THC is detected in the blood, there is an absolute ban on driving under the influence of alcohol. -People under 21 or people on probation are not allowed to drive motor vehicles under the influence of alcohol or THC. “Zero tolerance” applies here – absolute ban, without limit!
