At noon on August 23, 2024, officers from the Bingen police station independently subjected two e-scooters, each with a male driver, to a traffic check. During the first check at around 5:32 p.m. on Mainzer Strasse in Bingen, it was found that the 26-year-old’s e-scooter had no insurance cover. It was also found that the driver was under the influence of narcotics in the form of cannabis, whereupon a blood sample was taken. Just a short time later, at around 6:50 p.m., a 24-year-old was also subjected to a traffic check on his e-scooter, also on Mainzer Strasse in Bingen, after it was discovered that the e-scooter only had an expired insurance license plate. The driver was also found to be under the influence of cannabis in a preliminary test, so a blood sample was also taken from him. Both drivers must now face criminal proceedings for driving without insurance and administrative offence proceedings for driving a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs.
