Police Headquarters Ludwigshafen
Speyer (ots)
Already on 12.01. there was a fraud in Speyer. The perpetrator used a messenger for this purpose, stated that he was the son of the victim and had a new phone number. He also feigned an emergency, whereupon the injured party transferred around 2,000 euros. The police are warning all citizens of this scam. Anyone who receives such messages from supposed family members or people close to them should under no circumstances transfer money to a bank account – whether at home or abroad. Instead, an attempt should be made to contact this or other family members by telephone using the previously known number and first to talk about the facts. Alternatively, a voice message can also be requested. If it turns out to be an attempt at fraud, the chat history should not be deleted and the police should be notified.
