On October 16, 2024, around 10:45 p.m., a traffic accident involving a cyclist alone occurred on district road 37 between the towns of Benz and Labömitz. The 43-year-old German driver of an e-bike was driving on the sloping road from Labömitz towards the town center of Benz. Approximately 100m in front of Benz, for unknown reasons, he veered off the road to the right and collided with a street tree without head protection. The 43-year-old died on site. At the scene of the accident, branches and leaves were found on the road and there was also a strong crosswind. The extent to which these circumstances contributed to the accident is still the subject of ongoing investigations. The 43-year-old’s bicycle was initially seized for evidence analysis. The criminal police have started the investigation.
