POL-F: 220427 – 0464 Frankfurt-Nordend: Shock call from fake police officers

Police headquarters in Frankfurt am Main

Frankfurt (ots)

(fue) An 88-year-old man from Gaußstraße received a call from an alleged policewoman from the 3rd police station on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at around 12:50 p.m. With the well-known scam that his daughter was responsible for a traffic accident with injuries and now has to go to prison, the conversation was steered towards bail, which could prevent this circumstance. They then asked for valuables and cash before demanding EUR 40,000. Now that a “lawyer” took over the conversation, they agreed on an amount of EUR 20,000. It was to be handed over to an employee at the Roßmarkt in denominations of EUR 100. At around 2:00 p.m., the amount was handed over as is. Needless to say, the accident described never happened.

Another occurrence of scammers with this scam is to be expected.

In this context, the Frankfurt police once again point out that they never ask for money or valuables and never call the number “110”. Don’t get into arguments on the phone, just end the call. And once again – do not hand over any money or valuables to strangers, but always call the real police on 110 in case of suspicion.
