Terrorist assassination attempt in Solingen on August 23, 2024

On August 23, 2024, at 9:37 p.m., the Wuppertal police received information about a knife attack against several visitors at the Solingen city festival on the occasion of the city’s 650th anniversary.
According to initial witness statements and emergency calls, an as yet unknown male suspect is said to have suddenly stabbed other visitors with a knife in front of an event stage. The suspect then fled the scene in an unknown direction.
Despite immediate rescue efforts, three people were killed and six people were seriously injured. The suspect was arrested on August 24, 2024 and has been in custody since then.
