Pokemon TCG – Team Challenge » Misato Comics

Pokémon returns to the fray with Team Challenge, a new global online event to offer official stores a new way to interact with the local Pokémon TCG community and take it to an international level.

What is it about?

Misato Comics (like other official stores) is going to organize 4 qualifying tournaments. Players can participate in all 4 or whatever they want, as long as they are from the same organizing store and have not previously won a qualifier.

The winners of each qualifier will become members of the team that will represent Misato in the international tournament.

The games will be played on Pokémon Trading Card Online and we will use Discord as a communication platform. Both are free apps.

Unlike the tournaments that we usually do, these will be carried out live (like physical tournaments). There will be some Swiss rounds (not eliminatory) of 60min, where in that time they will have to contact their opponent and play the 2-3 games necessary to define a winner.

There are several gifts just to enter, and also physical prizes for the winners (and for the Team as they progress through the competition).

How much? What do i need to participate?

Participation is totally FREE. You do not need to have a competitive player to enjoy it, but it is recommended to have practice in TCG Online.

To play they need:

  • They must be residents of Argentina and have been born in 2004 or before, as only Master Category players can participate.
  • Have a Pokemon TCG Online account, and get your PlayerID (the same as the official tournaments)
    • You can see or create it here: https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-trainer-club/play-pokemon/events/
  • A Standard deck is required in the Pokemon TCG Online. If you have doubts, with time you can ask for help in the group to make sure and improve it.
  • They need to sign up for each tournament individually on the RK9 website (links below). Registration begins 8 days before each tournament and before the beginning they must upload the list of the deck they will play to that website.

What are the prizes?

  • All players will receive exclusive Team Challenge digital gear, deck sleeves and boxes to be used in TCGO (to be distributed when Qualifiers end) and additional codes for TCGO.
  • For each Misato qualifier they participate in, they will receive:
    • 2 physical promos cards
    • 2 digital booster for TCG Online of the last expansion.
  • The winners of each Qualifier will receive
    • 1 exclusive official physical playmat of Team Challenge
    • More than 10 TCG Online digital boosters (according to number of participants)

Then in the Team Elimination stages, Pokemon Company will add other official playmats with exclusive designs according to TOP256, TOP32 positions. Also other physical products from TOP8. Prizes for the winning team will be announced shortly.

The physical prizes will be delivered at Misato Comics (City of Buenos Aires). Participants from other locations will be responsible for the corresponding shipping costs, but they may be sent along with purchases in the store to reduce them.

What is the structure of the tournament?

Qualifying tournaments will be played in a single division (Masters) with the appropriate number of Swiss rounds, followed by a direct knockout (TOP), as documented in the official tournament rules.

The format of these qualifiers will be Standard. Newly released cards will be tournament legal from the day they are released. The winner of each of the 4 qualifiers will secure their place in the store team.

The team playoffs will be played after the end of the qualifying season, and will be played as direct elimination between stores until a global winner is determined.
