In a brand new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer, we see that you can catch co-op Pokémon for the first time in Pokémon history.
In 2016 we could already play battles with four players in Pokémon Sun en Moon (opens in new tab)† However, four-player co-op is completely new. Being able to run around in an open world with up to three friends while battling trainers and replenishing your pokédex sounds fantastic. Competing against friends is fun, but the idea of working together as a team in the Pokémon world sounds like a dream come true.
Pokemon Scarlet in Purple contains even more new features. For example, each version of the game has its own Professor: Sada or Turo.
Still, we are most frantic that we have a release date: November 18, 2022, the game will be released worldwide, just a few months away. Watch the new trailer below:
A torrent of possibilities
It’s great to see the new Legendary Pokémon. Yet we are especially curious how we can play with our friends. We would also like to know whether the co-op is local or whether everyone is via their own Nintendo Switch can participate online. Hopefully Nintendo will reveal more about the co-op mode soon, so we can start arguing about who is which new starter pokémon chooses. For now, we opt for the cute grass kitten, but Fuecoco has also secretly caught our attention.
Exploring the world and competing in trainer battles is great, but we wonder if it is also possible to do duo battles or even quad battles. The complete chaos that ensues when eight Pokémon fight each other sounds unexpectedly very interesting.
With any luck, more news from Nintendo about the co-op gameplay will be coming soon, so we can probably form our own Team Rocket with our friends.
