In the last few hours, a controversy has arisen in the coaching community. According to a couple of former Nintendo employees, The Pokémon Company was of the opinion that play their titles by doing type challenges nuzlocke it was comparable to hacking, or the use of pirated ROMs. For those who do not know, a nuzlocke in Pokémon it is a way to play with self-imposed limitations, which make the game more complicated and challenging. The most typical is the rule that if a creature is weakened, the trainer can no longer use it, that is, if a Pokémon is weakened it is as if it were dead. a way that it is not present in the titles of the franchise, but that other similar titles, such as Coromon, have introduced. It’s silly that society is against something like this, right? Actually. It seems that the information is not like that.
The flame was lit Kit and Krista, two famous American content creators who have been managing the Nintendo Minute podcast for many years. Now they have disassociated themselves from the big N and, on a recent program, claimed to have gone on one occasion to The Pokémon Company to suggest the idea of making a nuzlocke on his podcast and that the company’s response was that they considered that game mode something equivalent hacking. The news went viral in the English-speaking media, but not everyone was too convinced of these statements.
The nuzlocke not a problem for The Pokémon Company
The first to question them was Joe Merrick, webmaster from the reference network in the world of pocket monsters Serebi.net, and therefore someone closely related to the Pokémon company. He first stated that it must be a misunderstanding between The Pokémon Company and the duo formed by Kit and Krysta, and then shared an official statement from the company: «We have no problem with fans and content creators playing by the rules nuzlocke“.

It is very likely that at the time, from The Pokémon Company, they misunderstood Kit and Krysta’s requestsince it is true that there are players who use hacked roms to enter mode nuzlocke in your programming But it seems that the company is not against this game mode, as long as it is carried out by the possibilities offered by the original titles themselves. At the moment, the company has not yet released a public statement, but coming from someone’s statements so deeply linked to franchising and that it has always provided quality information, there is little reason to doubt it.
